JOB TITLE: NURSE MANAGER

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature andlevel of work performed.
The nurse manager/leader implements the values andthe vision of the organization by influencing the care delivered to patients andfamilies. The nurse manager/leader effectively communicates andrepresents the mission andvision of Jiahui International Hospital andthe Department of Nursing. The nurse manager/leader understands the principles andfoundations on creating, monitoring andanalyzing a unit budget andtranslating the mission andvision of the organization intodaily practice affecting patients, families, nursing staff andthe organization. The nurse manager/leader develops andfosters collaborative relationship with all members of the health care team andhospital leadership. They do this by promoting a healthy work environment that is committed to high quality, safe care, andrespectful communication. The nurse manager/leader is a visionary in seizing opportunities andtrends in the industry orprofession to develop new strategies, policies, processes andsolutions that will createvalues forthe customers.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES andRESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, majorjob duties, special projects andkey objectives forthis position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year andincluded in the written evaluation.
1. Provides an environment foreffective patient-focused nursing care.
? Responsible forhigh quality nursing care with positive patient outcomes.
? Supervise nurses to ensure that staff conduct andservices rendered are professional andof excellent quality
? Collaborates with the registered nurse, physician, other health care professionals andassistive personnel to plan the delivery of care on the unit andto createjoint protocols forpatient care.
? Ensure the nursing staff receives the orientation, training andcontinuing education programs adequate to maintain andadvance the required level of competency.
? Promotes an environment that is sensitive to the culturally diverse needs of patients andemployees.
? Evaluates the outcomes of patient care; uses patient satisfaction information to recommend andintegrate appropriate changes.
? Actively participates on committees forongoing development of nursing practice.
? Responsible fordirect clinical nursing practice; preserves the integrity of provider/patient relationship.
? Empower, influence, lead andmobilize others to act.
2. Personnel Management
? Participate in the interview, hiring and/ orcounseling process of the unit staff.
? Counsel staff with complex problems consulting with hospital andhuman resource experts as necessary.
? Acts as a coach andmentorto staff.
? Appraise andevaluate the staff nurse performance in accordance with Human Resource policy andas needed based on staffs performance.
? In a timely manner gives honest, open anddevelopmental feedback to staff on their performance.
? Creates opportunities forstaff nurses to grow professionally in their practice andleadership skills.
? Conducts regular staff meetings, on all shifts. Values andencourages the open exchange of ideas.
3. Administration/Business
? Coordinate staffing needs andrequirements forclinical area assigned
? Responsible forimplementing, evaluating anddisseminating approved policies, procedures andstandards of care necessary forthe coordination anddelivery of excellent patient-focused care.
? Monitorandcoordinate the budget andexpenditure forthe clinical areas.
? Support departmental cost containment through management of laborcosts, agency usage andFTE’s.
? setfuture goals andobjectives based on understanding of market, patient needs, andindustry trends; accurately scope out impact, length anddifficulty of future strategies; andclearly articulate strategic intent to gain support among management andemployees.
? Demonstrate decisiveness andadvocacy to ensure adequate resources andauthority.
? Precepts andmentors new nurse managers.
? Serve as a resource person on clinical, service andtraining matters
? Coordinates andparticipate in the strategic planning forthe department.
? Knowledgeable about technology that supports the delivery andmonitoring of safe, cost effective care
? Provides consultation to all members of the team.
4. Operations Management
? Maintains a safe environment forpatient/staff.
? Directs day-to-day activities of unit based staff.
? Reviews the appropriate useof equipment, supplies, andphysical facilities; holds staff
accountable forsafe andefficient practice.
? Participates in planning andcarrying out to completion projects to improve the physical
environment.
? Establishes collaborative relationships andpromotes teamwork within andacross departments/programs/areas.
? Collaborate with other Nurse Leader / Case Manager to develop, implement andevaluate care plan andnursing standards.
? Facilitate andparticipate in physician’s rounds. Encourages staff nurses to be active participants in the rounds.
? Evaluate the efficient andeffective useandcare of equipment
? Manages complex patient/family andstaff relation issues. Involve nursing staff to participate to assist in developing skills in conflict management andnegotiation.
5. Leads and/orparticipates in performance improvement activities
? Continually evaluates quality andsafety performance, identifies improvement opportunities andplans andimplements programs forimprovement.
? Evaluate andmonitorthe process andoutcome of patient care delivery with staff nurses andseniornurses
? Collaborated with physicians andother members of the health care team in ensuring safe, high quality andinnovative practice.
? Recognizes, develops, implements andshares best practices.

Equipment /Software
n Demonstrate skill in the useof equipment anddevices pertinent to treatment, procedures andpractices. Proficient in common medical equipment, include but not limited to infusion pump, glucometer, etc.
n Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite andHIS. Good typing skill.
Education, Experience, Licenses andCertifications
n Bachelor’s degree orabove.
n Holding current valid PRC. Nursing License.
n At least 10 years of clinical nursing experience with minimum 5 years of management experience preferred.
n Overseas experience preferred.
n Maintain CPR, certifications (BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.) per hospital policy.
